Job Summary: The Video Editor and Producer is responsible for creating compelling, visually distinctive video journalism for The Daily Signal. This role works in collaboration with the Digital Media Manager to produce timely video products, special features, and long-form documentaries. The Video Editor and Producer is a visual storyteller who generates sharp ideas, collaborates across the newsroom, and brings a strong editorial and creative vision to every project.
Job Duties:
- Conceive, shoot, produce, and edit news packages and other video content using strong visual storytelling, high-quality b-roll, graphics, and music—often under tight deadlines.
- Develop creative concepts that present The Daily Signal’s journalism in bold, engaging, and shareable video formats.
- Participate actively in digital and editorial meetings, pitching timely, original, and visually rich story ideas.
- Coordinate with the digital and editorial teams to schedule and record interviews, manage setup, and deliver complete packages ready for distribution.
- Manage logistics and travel for field shoots.
- Provide constructive editorial and creative feedback to strengthen the team’s video products.
- Produce content optimized for social media, with a focus on strong hooks and audience engagement.
- Manage and grow The Daily Signal’s YouTube presence, collaborating with Digital Media Manager to expand reach and impact.
- Collaborate with freelancers and external vendors, ensuring high production quality and smooth delivery of assets.
- Maintain and organize video archives and manage acquisitions from outside video partners.
- Recommend and evaluate new equipment, software, and production workflows to ensure the team remains cutting-edge.
- Uphold consistent graphics, branding, and visual standards across all video content.
- Monitor emerging trends in digital journalism and implement innovative approaches to storytelling.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a journalism or broadcast production-related major.
Experience: 5+ years of shooting, editing, and producing videos for broadcast and/or posting online; knowledge of the newsroom and the workings of the Hill and/or think tanks; ability to live stream events
Communication: Excellent editing and writing skills, attention to detail, ability to condense complex information into short videos.
Technology: Proficiency with camera equipment, professional audio setups, lighting techniques, and both handheld and tripod-based videography; expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects; understanding of digital production workflows from capture to export; experience publishing to YouTube and managing content analytics; Microsoft Suite

The salary range for this role is $78,000 - $97,000 annually. This range is a good-faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
